Du’Bois A’Keen is a true Renaissance Spirit: Polymath, Accomplished Artist, Educator, and Futurist. His work has been featured in OperaWire, NPR, The New York Times, Dance Magazine, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He is the founder of the Harlem Gospel Ensemble and the Sacred Groove music collective. Du’Bois served as creative associate and music director for Sacred Songs, choreographed by Matthew Rushing for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s New York City Center season and The Whitney Museum’s Edges of Ailey exhibition.
He previously served as Associate Director of Music and Programming at the Mama Foundation for the Arts, co-leading Sing Harlem. With the choir, he headlined Ginny’s Supper Club, hosted Monday Soul Session at Red Rooster, and performed with Andra Day at the Albie Awards and Glamour’s Women of the Year tribute to Mary J. Blige. For 15 years, he has served ministries nationwide as music director, choir director, praise team leader, and creative consultant.
He began his career touring with Urban Bush Women, originating works including Hair & Other Stories, Walking With ‘Trane, and SCAT. He made his operatic debut with Arizona Opera, and in 2021 returned to direct and perform Charlie Parker’s Yardbird for Dayton Opera. In 2026, Du’Bois will reprise both roles—Yardbird’s choreographer/dancer and lead performer in SCAT: The Lives of Al and Dot Zollar.
His film DWB (Driving While Black), starring Grammy-winner Karen Slack, was commissioned by UrbanArias and produced by A’KEEN BRAND. In 2025, he released Sacred Songs Suite, along with singles FALLING…, STILL SKIES, and LOVE ETERNAL. He continues to collaborate with jazz legend Craig Harris.
Du’Bois teaches in the Sustainability Management program at Columbia University’s School of Professional Studies and the Climate School. In 2025, he made his Apollo Theater Music Café debut with a solo concert celebrating his sophomore EP, A’ LOVE NOTE.
